Open days at University of Oxford

University of Oxford is the oldest university in the UK with nine centuries worth of history. It is world famous for the exceptional teaching, research and learning opportunities it offers, and its long history of excellence.  

Undergraduate students enjoy personalised, regular tutorial teaching with subject experts and are part of college communities which provide a safe and supportive environment for study. 

Oxford has international links with institutions and research centres around the world through its alliances, collaborations and networks. 

Oxford University has a long and illustrious history of producing some of the world's most influential and accomplished individuals. A few examples include J.R.R. Tolkien. Stephen Hawking, Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher.  

Facilities  

Oxford has over 100 libraries, making it the largest university library system in the UK. The prestigious Bodleian Library is a legal deposit library meaning that it can request a copy of any item published in the UK or Ireland. 

Oxford is currently ranked among the top British universities for sport. It has an extensive university sports centre that is accessible to all students. College facilities include squash courts, gyms, boathouses, football pitches and cricket pitches. 

Why go to an open day?  

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.  

Where is it located?  

The University of Oxford is made up of 39 colleges and four permanent private halls of religious foundation all situated within the city. Oxford is easy to get to by train, bus or coach.  

Known as the City of Dreaming Spires, Oxford boasts dramatic architecture, picturesque green spaces and a range of museums and galleries. It is a small city with a population of just 150,000, of which 40,000 are students. Oxford offers plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, pubs and clubs. There are many green spaces too, with riverside walks and the university parks.
