Open days at University of East London
Founded in 1898, University of East London is a careers-led institution. They have collaborated with industry to re-develop, redesign and validate their course portfolio to reflects the changing needs of industry and prepare students for the real world.
Inclusivity and diversity are key to the university. Their students represent over 160 different nationalities and 57% of their students are the first in their family to attend university.
Facilities
Specialist course facilities include a child development lab (Baby Dev Lab), multimedia production centres, clinical education centre and biomechanics lab, nursing simulation centre, mooting room for law students, and more.
Modern libraries at Docklands and Stratford campuses provide access to resources, study spaces and well-equipped computer suites.
There is a range of sports facilities across the three sites including two multi-purpose indoor sports arenas, a 120-piece fitness centre, a fully equipped strength and conditioning room, dance and aerobics studios and outdoor pitches at SportsDock.
Why go to an open day?
When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.
Where is it located?
The University of East London has three campuses, Docklands, Stratford and University Square. They are all well served by London's public transport systems. There's a regular free bus between the Docklands and Stratford campuses. You can also use the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).
It's not possible to run out of things to do in London. The food scene is eclectic, with Borough Markets, Spitalfields Market and Portobello Road Markets all offering cheap, quality street food. Shoreditch, Hackney, Camden, and Islington are other goldmines for food-lovers. Every night London has something on. Don't be disheartened and assume that events are always expensive. Apps such as TodayTix have theatre tickets for as low as £10, while places like the Top Secret Comedy Club have shows each night throughout the week that are either free or £1 entry.
