Why study in Sheffield?
Sheffield is England's fifth largest city, located in the north of England. Over 65,000 students live in Sheffield, making it a true student city. The large student population helps local businesses thrive. As a result, many of these businesses are tailored to students' needs. With many different theatres, cafes, art and music venues, there’s plenty to explore. There’s also lots of parks, public gardens and countryside, as green spaces make up 60% of the city.
About Sheffield
Nestled in Yorkshire, Sheffield blends industrial architecture, modern spaces and natural landscapes. With a strong industrial past, the city has since positioned itself as a cultural hub.
A third of Sheffield lies within the Peak District National Park. The city also has Purple Flag status, showing that it has a safe night-time economy. These both contribute to making Sheffield a popular student destination.
University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield teaches over 30,000 students from 150 different countries. It offers highly-rated courses in Architecture, Communications and Media Studies, and Nursing, making it a popular choice with students and teaching staff from around the world.
Location
The University of Sheffield is not a campus university. Instead its buildings are clustered around the south-west of the city centre. Here you can find a mile-long stretch where most buildings belong to the university. Much of the university's accommodation is further west. You'll live within easy reach of Endcliffe Park, which stretches out to meet the Peak District National Park. Choose from apartments or shared houses, with room options including en suite, shared facilities and deluxe.
Facilities
The University of Sheffield Students’ Union has earned the title of best in the country, an accolade it has maintained for six years running. Students can access 350 sports clubs and societies, and facilities that include a bar, cafe and restaurant. There’s also a fitness centre with gym, fitness classes, and indoor swimming pool with sauna and steam rooms. The library service offers extensive research collections and specialist librarians for every main subject area.

Sheffield Hallam University
Sheffield Hallam has over 35,000 students, over 2,000 academic staff and hundreds of courses to choose from. Students get the chance to put their newly-learned skills into practice with work experience offered in each year of their course. Links with top employers include IBM, Unilever and the NHS.
Location
Sheffield Hallam University operates across two sites.
City Campus is in the city centre. It's a modern environment just minutes from Sheffield's main bus and rail stations and the city's commercial centre. City Campus is where you'll find Student Services, for help with finances, careers and wellbeing. The Students' Union is here too – its distinctive building started life as the National Centre for Popular Music.
The Collegiate Campus is about two miles away in south-west Sheffield. The campus is set among lawns and trees in one of Sheffield’s leafiest and thriving suburbs. You're also close to the lively nightlife of Ecclesall Road.
Facilities
There are around 40 sports clubs, plus social sports such as football or fitness classes like Zumba. Student societies cover a wide range of interests, from anime to wine appreciation.
The university also has state-of-the-art technology to help students develop work-ready skills. These include a PlayStation5 teaching lab and a flight simulator for engineering students to test aircraft designs. A 3D virtual radiotherapy room allows healthcare students practise treating cancer patients.
