About the course
If you鈥檙e passionate about mathematics and also want to explore today鈥檚 financial industries, this integrated Masters course is for you. The course is particularly relevant if you鈥檙e interested in a career in research at a university or in industry.You鈥檒l build on your core knowledge of pure and applied mathematics and statistics, while discovering the world of mathematics tailored to financial analysis. You鈥檒l learn from experts in both disciplines.Our modules are based on the latest research. You鈥檒l experience contemporary concepts in mathematics and gain a solid grounding in how they apply outside of the classroom. Early on in your degree you take core modules. In your third year, you choose from a variety of options including:- financial mathematics- financial risk management- valuation of companies and cash flow generating assets- derivatives.You鈥檒l develop your analytical and modelling skills using industry-standard software such as MATLAB, Python and R. You鈥檒l grow your research skills in Year 4, preparing for an advanced research project.Academic advisers support you throughout and you鈥檒l have lots of opportunities to engage with potential employers. You鈥檒l also have a dedicated careers adviser. You鈥檒l graduate with the skills needed for success in research or in the financial sector. You鈥檒l gain experience in analysing large data sets, coding and team working.The Department of Mathematics is a close-knit community where you鈥檒l get to know your lecturers. AccreditationThis programme is accredited to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
MMath or BSc?We also offer this course as a three-year BSc.
