What you'll study

Clinical Oral Microbiology is concerned with the diagnosis and management of oral infections. The interface of oral and systemic infection, effect of immune system efficacy on the susceptibility to infection, and antimicrobial stewardship are all parts of the clinical oral microbiology specialty.

This DClinDent programme is unique in the UK and will expand your knowledge and skills in clinical oral microbiology and provide an excellent preparation for your career as a clinical academic in this field. The programme of study is in line with the General Dental Council curriculum for Clinical Oral Microbiology.

Assessment


• Each module is assessed separately, including essays, written, clinical and viva voce examinations

• You will also be assessed by case presentations and clinical, diagnostic and treatment planning

• You will be assessed through your dissertation and research projects

Teaching

You'll be taught through a combination of expert seminars, supervised clinical and laboratory sessions, one-to-one tutorials, self-directed learning, case presentations and reading. We utilise contemporary pedagogic teaching techniques such as problem based learning, evidence based practice, flipped classroom and journal clubs.
