Why study in Bath?

If you鈥檙e looking for a sophisticated city to study in with lots to see and do, that鈥檚 well connected to other places, Bath could be for you.

About Bath

Famous for its historic architecture, you could feel like you鈥檝e stepped into a Jane Austen novel or an episode of Bridgerton. Along with its rich heritage, Bath is full of independent shops, cafes, bars, and live entertainment. A perfect mix of old and new.

A compact city to get around, you鈥檙e in easy reach of the Cotswold countryside and can get direct trains to cities such as Bristol, London and Cardiff.

University of Bath

The University of Bath is one of the UKs top-performing universities. It also has a reputation as one of the safest universities in the UK. You'll find an array of subjects to choose from, including architecture, economics and engineering.

Location

The campus is set in a green space around one mile from the city centre. There is a great bus service into town, taking about 15 minutes, or you could walk if you fancied some exercise. Campus accommodation is also located close by.

Facilities

The university has its own arts centre, The Edge, which includes galleries, theatres, music and art studios, and a cafe. There鈥檚 a good range of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities on campus, including swimming pools. The library is in the centre of campus and open 24/7.

Bath Spa comprises three sites. Its main campus is Newton Park, about 3.5 miles west of the centre. Its idyllic parkland setting has a mix of historic and modern buildings, and impressive digital and studio resources. Locksbrook campus is in the city, beside the river Avon. Sion Hill is in the Lansdown area of Bath.

The Commons building is the place to go for lectures, computer rooms and more study spaces. Food and drink options include the Refectory at Newton Park. Living in Bath

Both universities guarantee accommodation on or off campus to first-year students who meet the criteria. As Bath is a compact place, it鈥檚 easy to get around on foot, by bike, or by bus, wherever you find yourself.

From the second year onwards, you鈥檒l be responsible for finding your own place to live. It鈥檚 wise to start looking for accommodation in the latter part of your first year to ensure you have more choice. Many students stay within the city centre; others head out to Oldfield Park, a lively student area.

Things to do in Bath

The city gets its name from the baths built as part of a spa by the Romans. The ruins are a major tourist attraction today. There's also the modern Thermae Bath Spa, complete with an open-air rooftop pool if you fancy a dip. If you鈥檙e not a water baby, there are plenty of other things to do as a break from the books.

This might look familiar as it's a popular film and TV location, used in Downton Abbey and Harry Potter.
