1. Enormous and influential industry

Even with its moral and economic challenges, the fashion industry isn’t going anywhere. Everybody needs clothes. It’s a rapidly evolving area to be in, and it may be competitive, but there will always be a need for professionals in the industry.

2. Exciting projects

Minimal time in a Fashion course is spent being taught in a classroom. You'll have a lot of permitted creative freedom, where you'll work independently on your creations for anything from costume to sportswear.

What’s more, you may get to learn from or work alongside respected industry professionals, attend high-profile events and even rub shoulders with celebrities.

3. Placements and study abroad opportunities

Degree courses often include the opportunity to spend time working in an industry placement where you’ll gain an understanding of the professional world.

You may get to spend a year studying at an overseas university, where you experience Fashion first-hand in a different environment. A year abroad could also mean practising a second language – which is a desirable skill to have in this industry.

4. Transferable skills

As well as specific design techniques, you'll improve your transferable skills such as communication, presentation, marketing and PR. These can be very useful if you decide to go down a different career route after graduating.

5. Course combination options

Many universities offer courses that combine Fashion with another discipline, equipping you with an even broader set of skills. Course combinations include Fashion with management, international business, journalism, art history or digital technology.
