When is A Level results day 2025?

A Level results day is on Thursday 14 August 2025.

In Scotland, SQA results are due to be released to students on Tuesday 5 August 2025.

You can pick your results up anytime from 8am, or whenever your school or college opens on the day.

What happens on results day?

You collect your results from your school or college. Contact your school for their exact opening and closing times.

You can check on UCAS Hub whether you have got into either your firm or insurance choices but make sure you collect your results to see what grades you got. You’ll need these grades if you have to go through Clearing.

UCAS receives your results and will update your Hub, they should be available at around 8.15am. The system will be very busy, so you might need to be patient to find out whether you’ve been successful.

If you can’t collect your grades yourself, let your school know in advance and arrange for someone to collect them for you.

However, if you need to go through Clearing, these are phone calls you'll need to make yourself rather than a parent or family member, universities will want to speak to you.

If UCAS Hub doesn't update

If your Hub has still not updated by mid-morning on results day, the university may still be making their final decision on your application. You'll need to phone the university to discuss your grades and your offer. You can find the information you’ll need on our university profile pages.

How should you prepare for A Level results day

The best way to stay calm for results day is to make sure you are organised.

Make sure you have:

  • your UCAS ID number and log-in details.
  • your UCAS Clearing number – you’ll find this on the UCAS Hub if you’ve been rejected by both your first and insurance choices, you’ll be eligible to use Clearing and will need this number.
  • Clearing phone numbers for the universities you’ve researched, and think would be a good fit for you.
  • pen and paper – you may need to take a lot of notes about a Clearing place.
  • a phone charger. You don’t want your phone dying in the middle of a call.
  • your personal statement – universities you speak to in Clearing may ask you questions based on this.

It won’t hurt to have a plan B in place. Revisit other course options and look at your personal statement again. Practice answers for what you may be asked about the course on a Clearing phone call.

Getting your grades

You’ve met your firm offer

Congratulations are in order. If you have got the grades you needed, you’ll be sent a confirmation from your firm choice. This may take a little while to update as UCAS Hub will be busy. Once you get your offer you can relax and start to plan for going to university.

You’ve just missed your predicted grades

This may not be the end; you could still get an offer from your firm choice. Check UCAS Hub and see if your status has changed to ‘unconditional’ or if you’ve been offered a place on a different course at the same university, which you’ll need to accept or decline.

You’ve met your insurance offer

Wait for your confirmation email to arrive and if you are happy to accept this course then it’s time to think about accommodation at your new university.

Have a look at your student loan details – you might be entitled to slightly more in financial support depending on where you're now going to study.

If you want to decline all your offers you can:

  • Go into Clearing: This is a system that matches students with unfilled university places.
  • Appeals: If you believe there's a genuine mistake in your grading, you can request a formal review (discuss this with your school first).
  • Resitting Exams: Depending on the exam board and your qualifications, you might be able to retake specific exams.
  • Gap Year: Take time to work, volunteer, or travel. It can be a valuable experience and give you clarity on your future path.

What if your grades are much lower than predicted

Before you panic, still check your UCAS Hub, you may still have an offer. If the university hasn't decided yet, phone them to discuss your situation.

It will be tough if your firm or insurance university have not offered you a place, especially if you’re surrounded by friends who are celebrating. But there have been lots of student in that position before you and your school will be there to support you and offer advice.

Gap year

Taking a gap year can be an option if you've missed your predicted grades. It gives you valuable time to regroup, explore your interests, and potentially even strengthen your future applications. Here's how a gap year can be beneficial:

Gain Clarity and Direction:

Stepping away from academics can help you figure out what you truly want from your education and career.

Volunteer

You could volunteer or intern in fields that interest you. This can solidify your passion or spark new ideas.

Get a job

Or getting a job is a chance to develop and gain new experience. Working a job can teach you valuable skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Travel or learn a language:

Immerse yourself in another culture through travel or language programs. This can be a huge asset for future studies or work.

Good luck for results day, whatever happens, it’s not the only route available, take a step back and consider your next move. We have lots of advice to support you if needed.
