What degree had you originally applied for and where? 

I originally applied for BSc Microbiology at the University of Manchester. 

What is your degree, and where are you studying? 

I am currently studying BSc Biomedical Science at the University of Chester. 

Why did you enter Clearing? 

I entered Clearing as I failed to cope with the stress of A level exam season and as a result my grades suffered, and I wasn't able to directly secure a place at university. 

What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose? 

From speaking to lecturers at a Clearing Open Day I decided to study Biomedical Science as I discovered it would provide me with more opportunities for postgraduate jobs than just a Microbiology degree alone. I also discovered that it was accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, meaning I would have more career opportunities post-study at Chester. 

Did you attend a Clearing Open Day and, if so, how was it? 

Yes, I attended a Clearing Open Day and found it very informative and enjoyable to see other students who were in a similar position to myself. Having a tour of the campus and speaking to current students reaffirmed my choice to study at Chester due its excellent facilities and friendly staff and students. 

Did you find a place to live easily? 

I found accommodation after visiting the Clearing Open Day. The University of Chester's partnership accommodation was present and allowed me to view and apply for my room. 

Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni? 

I have enjoyed my course at university as it allowed more exploration of practical activities which A-level and GCSE learning does not provide, and I have met many friends through my studies. The University's Careers and Employability team also helped me obtain a competitive 5-week placement at Wrexham Maelor Hospital's pathology lab providing me with real work experience and contacts within the biomedical field.
