Course summary
This course engages you with theatre and activism, community-building, and social justice. It equips students to think about, make, perform, direct, produce and facilitate across theatre practices including contemporary performance, festivals, spoken word, installation, devised and applied work.Industry placements, projects and case studies play a major role in the course, giving you skills in project design and implementation, understanding of cultural, social and creative context, writing proposals, fundraising, marketing, and communications.An extended placement gives students a practical and immersive experience in a professional environment, and recent placements have included students working with leading companies and organisations such as Punchdrunk Enrichment, the Royal Court, The Yard, Oily Cart, Half Moon Theatre, Cardboard Citizens, Woven Ink, Apples & Snakes, Wales Millennium Centre and more. Students also have the opportunity to engage with world-renowned artists and leaders in the arts who deliver talks, guest lectures and classes previously these have included Stella Kanu, Le Gateau Chocolat, Travis Alabanza and Ama Josephine Budge.We aim to put you in front of and amongst the profession. This includes the opportunity to build a highly relevant network, showcase opportunities and work on real-world projects while you study. Graduates are ideally placed to go on to a career in theatre making or community arts, as leaders, producers, facilitators, festival specialists and artists.
