Course summary


Speech and language therapy provides vital support and treatment for people who have difficulties with communication.

As a qualified SLT you may be involved with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and communication disorders across the lifespan and/or eating and drinking difficulties. You will work with paediatric and adult clients, parents, carers, professionals, and support workers in a range of different environments.On the course, you will explore areas including psychology, linguistics and phonetics, anatomy, physiology and speech and language therapy practice frameworks. You will also consider the biopsychosocial and cultural needs of the client.Our SLT degree will prepare you to meet the academic and clinical standards required for registration as a speech and language therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and for membership, as a newly qualified practitioner (NQP) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.All speech and language therapy students on courses from September 2020 will benefit from guaranteed, additional support of at least 拢5,000 a year, which they will not need to pay back. What you should know about this course

Use of state-of-the-art simulation facilities will be incorporated into teaching and learning to offer an inclusive curriculum so you can develop into a confident practitioner. Research skills are integrated to build your research confidence and capacity, and to encourage you not just as consumers of research, but as producers of knowledge. During your final year of study you will benefit from the Emergent Practitioner Skills module with creative assessments involving the development of e-portfolios & mock interviews. Real world student engagement is promoted through the real life examples and scenario based learning sessions in collaboration with clinicians & employers encourage active learning. There will be three clinical placements across the three years, enabling you to gain practice-based skills alongside experienced speech and language therapists.
