Course summary

An undergraduate degree in Russian at Birmingham allows you to explore a wide range of historical, cultural and literary topics alongside study of the language. With this intercultural degree, you'll gain competency in the Russian language, preparing you to work in a number of sectors from business and marketing to translation and teaching. Choose from an extensive selection of exciting optional modules, which may include: Russia Unwrapped: Cultures, Contexts, Identities Fiction in Place of A Public Sphere: The Golden Age of the Russian Novel, from Pushkin to TolstoyBusiness Russian Audio-Visual Translation Project: Russian to English Border Crossings: Word & Image in Twentieth- and Twenty-First Century Russophone Cultures


Pathway options:

Our BA Russian is flexible, meaning you'll be able to major in the Russian language or choose to study it as a Joint Honours, where your second language holds equal weighting. You can also choose the option of Translation Studies alongside one or two languages. If you want to study two additional languages consider our BA Modern Languages programme. One of the most exciting elements of this degree is that you'll experience living and studying in a year abroad.

A level grade B is required for each advanced language you wish to study. It is also possible to study two beginner (including post-GCSE) languages without taking an advanced language, as long as one of your beginner languages is French or Spanish.
