Course summary

Communications, Media and Culture at the University of Stirling had 70 percent of its research rated as either 鈥榳orld-leading鈥� or 鈥榠nternationally excellent鈥� in the most recent Research Excellence Framework. Our expertise in Public Relations has helped us build strong links with industry, giving PhD students the chance to both learn from and contribute to the latest thinking in the arena. We host regular visits from guest speakers and work closely with a range of international research partners 鈥� further contributing to a vibrant research environment that values your contribution as a Postgraduate researcher and supports you in your ambitions.

As a PhD researcher in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, you鈥檒l be provided with access to dedicated research facilities as well as an opportunity to attend a range of research seminars and workshops within specialist research centres and collaboratively across multi-disciplinary subjects. You鈥檒l also have access to a number of training opportunities, at University, Faculty and Divisional levels, including subject specialist training within postgraduate research seminars and other forums.

Before applying for a research degree, it鈥檚 important that you have a clear idea of what you would like to research, what you hope to achieve, and how you plan to achieve it. Your research proposal is your chance to lay out all of these details as part of the application process.

A research proposal should include a background, rationale and context as to why you want to undertake your research, as well as detailing clear aims and objectives. The proposal should also include more detail about your expertise, methodology and how you will approach your study.

The application form will ask you for a range of information and documentation, including your research proposal, how you plan to fund your studies, proof of qualifications, an academic reference and a CV.
