The postgraduate Nursing (Block and Blend) programme is designed to empower you to advance your nursing practice and patient care. This course offers an opportunity to critically explore your professional practice, enhance your therapeutic relationships, and adopt an evidence-based, person-centred approach to care.
The programme supports your personal, professional, and academic development while engaging with contemporary nursing practice issues. You will gain the skills necessary to apply new knowledge to your practice and achieve mastery in your chosen nursing field.

All about the course
The 'Block and Blend' learning route enables a flexible approach to study, combining face-to-face and online learning. In semester one, you will attend two face-to-face modules at the University. The remaining modules, including your dissertation, are completed online with remote supervision.
The MSc Nursing programme is also available as a two-year or three-year part-time course, with various pathways available. However, part-time options are not available to international students.
Course Structure:
- Semester one (face-to-face): Critically Exploring Professional Practice (30 credits) + one optional module (30 credits).
- Semester two (online learning): Research Methods Online (30 credits) + one optional module (30 credits).
- Semester three (distance learning): Dissertation (60 credits).
How you will learn
Teaching methods include:
- A student-centred teaching philosophy underpins the course, with a range of strategies, including seminars, lectures, action learning, online learning, directed study, practice-based assessments, and peer-supported learning.
- Online components include live streaming, pre-recorded sessions, blogs, discussion boards, and video lectures.
- Tutorial support is available via email, phone, FaceTime, Skype, or other preferred methods.

The programme uses a range of assessment methods, including assignments and presentations.
What about after uni?
Graduates of the MSc Nursing programme will have achieved mastery in their chosen field, equipping them to influence the future of nursing based on current evidence. This qualification opens up opportunities for senior roles within healthcare organisations, including clinical nurse specialist positions, practice education facilitator roles, research posts, and management positions.
Further study options
On completion of the MSc, there is the opportunity to progress to Doctoral courses, including the Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care and traditional PhD routes.
