Media and communication are at the heart of our culture, society, and democracy. We consume news from TV and X (formerly Twitter) in moments of crisis, rely on the cinema and streaming for entertainment, and connect using social media. Film is still one of the most prominent and popular forms of media. Film has the power to entertain, challenge, inspire, shock, and educate. That鈥檚 why you love it. It鈥檚 why we love it, too. On this course, you鈥檒l gain a blend of analytical, creative, and technical skills, designed to help you become an expert when it comes to understanding and using the media. You will be able to focus in on film in a global, digital media landscape. We鈥檝e created this degree to reflect the many different media careers you can follow, and you can tailor your studies to pursue what you鈥檙e most passionate about.


Why Study Media and Film Studies BA(Hons) at University of Huddersfield?

On the course, you鈥檒l get hands-on in our industry-standard studios, using specialist equipment and software, as you create media content you can be proud of. If you鈥檙e keen to pursue a career or further study in media, filming, television, promotional culture, interactive multimedia, screenwriting, graphic multimedia and more, this is the course for you. You could also explore film and drama in more depth in postgraduate study. In year three, you can take an optional placement year, before you go on to your final year of study. This optional one-year (48 weeks) work placement allows you to gain valuable hands-on experience. You鈥檒l be learning from the best on this course too, as the University of Huddersfield has been rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023.
