About the course
With its blend of innovative teaching, hands-on experience and key skill development, this MSc allows you to experience a blend of postgraduate taught modules exciting research opportunities field trips to state-of-the-art engineering and business facilities and access to cutting-edge technology and tools including the latest advanced software. You learn in an immersive environment, using the latest technologies in mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on applying your advanced engineering knowledge to real-life practice.
What will you study?
Studying our Mechanical Engineering MSc course will equip you with the knowledge and expertise in the areas of mechanical systems, transport and automotive engineering technologies. In core areas of study, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of typical sensors, actuators, control strategies, interface technology and learn to apply them to electro-mechanical systems in our Mechanical Dynamics and Mechatronics unit.
How will you be assessed?
The assessment strategy used is a balance of coursework group and individual reports portfolios presentations and exams. Presentations are usually given and assessed in the context of some coursework. The method used for the assessments will depend on the nature of the subject being taught in the unit and the most appropriate method has been chosen. Feedback and advice will be provided at key points throughout students course so that students can gain an insight into whether students work is meeting the necessary targets.
Careers
With the courses emphasis on exploring the latest technologies within the mechanical engineering sector you are ready to apply the latest real-life theory and practice to a range of settings and tools. This opens the way to careers in automotive railway and aerospace engineering energy including sustainable systems and construction to name a few.
Roles include mechanical engineer automotive or aerospace engineer civil engineer utilities engineer and CAD technician. The wider skills you build in taking this Masters – such as those in IT and maths – make other career paths an option such as management finance and teaching.
You may also wish to continue your studies with an MSc by Research or PhD in a related field.
