Course summary

A high proportion of change initiatives, including technologically focused ones, fail. This is often because of a limited understanding of human-technology collaboration. Adopting perspectives from social science, this MSc will enhance your knowledge of new technologies and, more importantly, foster your understanding of the practices, processes, and structures of work in contemporary society. This will equip you to bridge the gap between cutting-edge and evolving technologies and the people who drive their success. You do not need skills in coding or maths to enrol in this MSc, as the core modules focus on the application of social science theories and techniques.

Course essentials:

The rapid proliferation of digital tools and new technologies presents unique opportunities for every organisation, whether in the public, private or non-profit sectors. Furthermore, tools like generative AI and robotics give rise to complex and contested relationships between people and technologies – raising questions around ethics, expertise, trust and accountability. Indeed, in many cases, the reason for the success or failure of technology projects is not down to technical issues, but rather the extent to which technologies resonate with people – their expectations, their work practices, their knowledge and their skills.
