Course summary

Counsellors play a key role in helping people find clarity and resolve feelings in often complex situations. During this BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling degree you will become a qualified counsellor after completing your second year. You will practise counselling in a variety of contexts to support you to become a robust and thoughtful practitioner. You will attend university for 1 day per week, complete supervised practice placements, and receive 20 hours of personal therapy each academic year.This four-year, part-time degree combines Humanistic theory with professional and ethical practice. You will explore how you can contribute to the contemporary and growing field of counselling and psychotherapy, interact with peers, and cultivate new ways of understanding therapy and yourselves. The course has an emphasis on professionalism, employability, and personal development. You will work towards a total of 300 hours of work experience as part of the course, gaining 100 hours by the end of Year 2 and 300 hours by the end of Year 4. 80% of our graduates are working as counsellors.The course combines humanistic theory with professional and ethical practice and is grounded in humanistic values. These values fit contemporary working conditions well. You鈥檒l be given an opportunity to explore how, as a Humanistic Practitioner, you can contribute to the contemporary and growing field of counselling and psychotherapy. The BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling has been approved to start teaching the new Gold Book curriculum and is accredited by the BACP and completion of the degree entitles you to apply for individual accreditation through the BACP training route if you have satisfied other criteria for personal accreditation.
