Aberystwyth is a centre for the study of Welsh history with expertise ranging from the medieval through to the modern period and a range of exciting themes, such as the Glyndwr Rebellion, religion and morality in the eighteenth century, empire and migration in the nineteenth, and health and welfare in the twentieth.In choosing to study the BA in History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth University, you will benefit from learning from world leading scholars in Welsh history and also from the wider range of global History modules the department has on offer as part of this History degree.If you would like to specialise in Welsh History as well as study the history of the wider world, this is the degree for you.
Why study History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth?The History and Welsh History degree scheme allows you to benefit from studying at a world-leading centre of teaching and research in Welsh history as well as providing the flexibility to explore a range of other historical topics according to your own interests.- History has been taught in Aberystwyth since 1872, making our department the oldest in Wales and one of the foremost in Britain.- Our teaching is innovative, research-based and designed to develop your transferable skills in areas such as analysis, interpretation and communication, which will prepare you for a wide range of careers.- Our subject specialisms will enable you to follow your historical interests from the medieval period to the present day, ranging across four continents, and embracing political, social, economic and cultural history.- As an Aberystwyth History student, you will have full use of the National Library of Wales, one of the five Copyright Libraries of the UK and Wales's leading archive repository.- As part of your degree, you will have the opportunity to study abroad at a partner university, to undertake Heritage sector work placements and to plan for your future career.
