We offer specialist teaching on documentary film-making, fiction film-making, experimental film-making, multi-platform production, studio production and scriptwriting, as well as art cinema, horror and cult cinema, Hollywood, gender studies, television aesthetics, digital cultures, and video games. Designed to equip students with a combination of practical skills, creative confidence and critical awareness, this versatile course opens up multiple pathways into an exciting industry. The integrated foundation year 鈥� designed for prospective students who do not have a sufficient or relevant academic background 鈥� is the perfect option to access this highly sought-after scheme. In the Foundation Year, you will learn about key concepts for Film and Television from an inter-disciplinary angle, giving you a unique experience and critical perspective to make the most of the full undergraduate degree.You will be taught and mentored by a team of internationally known experts and practitioners. As a department, students benefit from our connections with key industry partners, such as the BBC, S4C, BAFTA Cymru, Tribeca Film Festival (New York), Fiction Factory, Tinopolis, Edinburgh International Film Festival, the National Broadcast Archive of Wales at the National Library of Wales and Avid. These partners provide an excellent opportunity to network and liaise with those in the industry before graduation. Students in the department have access to our superb facilities and resources for practical work: professional cameras and sound equipment, industry-standard software, professional TV studio, editing lab, postproduction suite, cinema, grading and dubbing suite, three rehearsal studios, and costume & wardrobe facilities. On our campus and situated next door to the department is one of the largest Arts Centres in Wales, which regularly presents screenings, talks, masterclasses, exhibitions and film festivals. Aberystwyth University is known for having a large number of clubs and societies, so be assured that your time will be occupied with your studies and taking part in your chosen club or society's activities.


Benefits of Foundation Year

A degree course with a foundation year enables you to gain the knowledge and skills required to succeed at degree-level studies. In addition, many of our Foundation year schemes offer some flexibility within the subject area giving you more time to decide on a specific subject pathway.During the Foundation year of the degree, you will explore a range of subjects, develop essential skills such as research and critical analysis, developing arguments and self-evaluation. Foundation year students have full access to all campus facilities, societies and everything else that Aberystwyth students鈥� community has to offer. You will be supported by the University's personal tutor system and have access to Student Support and Careers Services. Funding and availability of student loans are identical to all other undergraduates and you can apply for a place through UCAS in the same way as any other of our undergraduate degrees.There are few fixed entry requirements, but each applicant will be assessed on an individual basis to ensure that they are right for the course and that the course is right for them.
