Course summary

Throughout our Education Foundation Year, youll consider these and other questions from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Drawing on sociological and psychological theories and ideas, youll explore your own personal experiences of childhood and education. We want to make your experience as interactive and collaborative as possible. The Foundation Year is designed to introduce you to a range of current debates and contemporary issues in education. You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of your skills and knowledge, alongside building your confidence within higher education. Working with a dedicated personal tutor you will be introduced to the concepts of education, early years and childhood whilst preparing you for degree study.

Career prospects

Upon successful completion of your foundation year, you are able to progress onto either BA (Hons) Education or BA (Hons) Early Years and Childhood degrees.

As a graduate, you could develop your career across the education sector. You might work in community and youth work, or museum and gallery education. You could also pursue a career in related areas such as education publishing or the local government. Or perhaps youll continue on to postgraduate study.

If you decide youd like to become a teacher, youll need to complete a PGCE or another training route (this is normally a one-year course).
