Course summary

In your first year, youll build a strong foundation by engaging with English Language, English Literature, and Creative Writing. Youll explore the structure of the English language, with a particular focus on the accents and dialects of Chester. Youll also dive into literary works connected to the city and get creative by crafting your own writing inspired by Chesters rich history and unique heritage.

As you move into years two and three, the course offers a core module each year, plus the chance to choose from a wide range of optional modules in English Language, Literature, or Creative Writing. In your second year, the core module Advances in English combines all three strands to examine key milestones in the evolution of the English language, from Old English epic poetry to modern-day writing. Youll explore how language, culture, and society have influenced one another over the centuries.
